Why Team Coaching?

In a world full of training, workshops, and frameworks, why add Team Coaching?
Because training teaches. But coaching transforms.
What Team Coaching Is (And Isn’t)
Team coaching isn’t another team-building event or personality analysis. It’s not a one-off inspirational session or a theoretical model thrown at a group.
Team Coaching is an ongoing, co-created process that helps real teams solve real challenges in real time.
It builds awareness, ownership, and responsibility within the team itself. The coach doesn’t lead from the front or lecture from the side—they walk with the team as a thinking partner.
Why Now?
Because teams today are under pressure like never before:
- Constant change and uncertainty
- Remote and hybrid work dynamics
- Cross-functional complexity
- Rising stress, low psychological safety
Traditional training can’t keep up. It equips, but often doesn’t embed. Teams return from sessions inspired, but not always aligned, engaged, or transformed.
Team Coaching is the bridge between learning and living it out.
How Is Team Coaching Different from Team Training?
Let’s be clear: both have value. In fact, I often recommend starting with focused training sessions to build the common language, understanding, and psychological safety needed for coaching to work.

Mats Soomre, Belbin Accredited Team Coach
My Journey: From Training to Team Coaching
Since 2005, I’ve delivered hundreds of Belbin-based teamwork and leadership trainings across Estonia and beyond. These sessions create clarity, reveal strengths, and shift how people see each other. They’re powerful—but I saw a missing link.
After training, many teams still struggled to turn insight into action.
So I took the next step: Team Coaching.
With proper team coaching, we revisit what matters most: our goals, our behavior, our dynamics. We surface the real conversations. We build the trust, not just talk about it.
What Can You Expect?
When done well, team coaching:
- Increases psychological safety
- Deepens mutual understanding
- Helps teams face difficult topics constructively
- Builds accountability and self-management
- Enhances clarity, energy, and forward momentum
But it’s not easy. And it’s not instant.
It’s a journey. But it’s one worth taking.
Team Coaching with Me
I combine structured insights from Belbin Team Roles with team coaching principles accredited by the Association for Coaching (UK).
Our work together is rooted in:
- Understanding each other’s strengths, blind spots, and potential
- Accepting allowable weaknesses without blame
- Creating agreements and working practices that last
This is where transformation happens. Not from slides or slogans, but from reflection, conversation, and commitment.
